Jeongwon An was born in Seoul, South Korea, and moved to Los Angeles in 2012. She is a rising junior at the Eastman School of Music, studying under the tutelage of Mr. Oleh Krysa, and has also worked closely with Robin Scott and other members of the Ying Quartet.
A recipient of The Eastman School of Music’s George Eastman Circle Scholarship, Young Musician Foundation’s Davis Weiss Memorial and Hennings-Fischer Foundation’s Nick Nick Koutouratsas Memorial Scholarships, Jeongwon has performed as a soloist with the La Mirada, Hong Kong Children's, CalStateLA, Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA) Symphony, and Beverly Hills Festival Orchestras. Other recognitions include 1st prizewinner of the ASTA String Competition- California State Finals, Satori Strings Contest, and Southwestern Youth Music Festival.
Jeongwon has served as the concertmaster of the Eastman School Symphony Orchestra, CalStateLA Symphony Orchestra/Olympia Youth Orchestra, LACHSA Symphony Orchestra and LACHSA String Ensemble, where she received the “Award of Outstanding Musician”. As an active chamber musician, she has performed at the Kennedy Center with her string current quartet at Eastman, Asha String Quartet, and she was a member of the Anstamur Trio, whose accomplishments include 1st place at the MTAC VOCE Competition- State Finals and semi-finalist at the National PCM Chamber Music Competition. She was also selected by the Olympia Chamber Music Society to go on a chamber music tour to China and Hong Kong in March of 2016.
She played the US premiere performance of Yevhen Stankovych’s “Almost Serenade” for Two Violins with Mr. Oleh Krysa in his faculty recital in February 2019. She also gave the world premiere of composer Michael Daugherty’s “The Old Man And the Sea for violin, cello and piano” (2016) as a part of MTAC’s Friend of Today’s Music program.
She has attended the Beverly Hills International Music Festival, and will participate in the Bowdoin International Music Festival this coming summer. Additionally, she performed in master classes for Donald Weilerstein, Ray Chen, Jon Nakamatsu, St. Lawrence and Jupiter String Quartets, Linda Wang, and Suli Xue, among many others.
She previously studied with Mr. Fung Ho through a sponsorship from the Hennings-Fischer Foundation Strings Scholarship at LACHSA.
The violin and the bow that Jeongwon uses are generously on loan from the Maestro Foundation.
